Festival crowd at night

Our First FIB: Better Than Anything We Could Have Expected

We had been to Glastonbury and Reading, so we thought we knew what a festival was. Benicassim showed us we were wrong. The music did not even start properly until midnight and we were dancing until 6am. During the day we swam in the sea and ate the best paella of our lives.

"The moment the sun started coming up over the Mediterranean while the music was still playing, we both just looked at each other. That does not happen at Reading."

Jack had been excited about the electronic acts, Lisa wanted to see the indie headliners. As it turned out, we both got what we wanted and then spent three nights discovering music we had never heard before. We have already booked for 2026.

Fabulous Benicassim 2022: A Proper Return to Form

After two years without the festival, coming back in 2022 felt genuinely emotional. Day one (Friday) started warm and humid and by Saturday it was absolutely scorching – but that just meant everyone was in the sea together during the afternoon.

"The energy on that site in 2022 was unlike anything I have experienced at a festival before. Everyone was just so relieved and happy to be there."

The Hunna opened proceedings with a rock-infused set that had the crowd electric from the first note. I ended up staying a day longer than planned just to absorb a bit more of the atmosphere before flying home. Already counting down to 2026.

Benicassim 2011: The Best Four Days of My Life

I went to FIB 2011 knowing almost nothing about it, dragged along by a friend who had been three times before. By Saturday I was telling everyone I knew that they had to experience this.

"Mumford and Sons and Arctic Monkeys on the same night in front of the Mediterranean. Nothing I say can do justice to how that felt."

The thing that gets me every time about FIB is how the setting transforms everything. The same bands at a British festival would be great. At Benicassim, with the warm night air and the stars overhead and a crowd from about fifteen different countries, it becomes something magical.

Benicassim 2010: The Best Festival in the World, Full Stop

I have been going to music festivals for over a decade and FIB 2010 remains the standard against which I measure everything else. Thousands of people from across Europe gathered on a hilltop site above the sea, with music going all night long.

"There is no festival in the world quite like this. The scale of it, the setting, the music, the people. I would put it up against any festival anywhere."

The day time on the campsite beach was as memorable as the nights in the arena. I spent an afternoon talking to people from Germany, France, Australia and Colombia, all brought together by the same love of music. That cosmopolitan crowd is part of what makes FIB so special.
