My unforgettable three-day journey at the Benicassim music festival in 2022 began on a humid Friday, and boy, did it start with a bang! The crowd was thick with anticipation, everyone eager for the performances that were about to unfold.
DAY 1: ELECTRIC STARTS AND ELECTRONIC BEATS
The day kicked off with the electric energy of The Hunna. Their rock-infused tunes, blended with infectious enthusiasm, set the tone for the day. Following them was the Spanish sensation, Carolina Durante, who brought an authentic indie vibe to the festival; with their catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, they had us all singing along in no time.
As the sun began to set, the festival grounds were filled with the unmistakable sounds of Two Door Cinema Club. “What You Know” had everyone jumping in unison, a sea of hands reaching for the sky. However, Steve Aoki’s set turned the night into a neon dream. As the first beats of “Pursuit of Happiness” dropped, the crowd went wild, transforming the venue into a pulsating mass of energy.
DAY 2: FEEL-GOOD TUNES AND FIST-PUMPING BEATS
Day two began with the energetic set from ELYELLA. The electro-pop duo pumped up the crowd, building up anticipation for what was to come. The English rock band, We Are Scientists, didn’t disappoint either. They dished out hits after hits, with the crowd reveling in the nostalgia of “After Hours.”
As evening fell, Justice took over the stage. Their unique blend of electronic music and rock influences was both visually and musically enchanting. Lights flashed in sync with the bass-heavy beats, turning the festival grounds into a living, breathing entity. The night concluded with an explosive set by Tyga. His infectious rhythms and magnetic stage presence had everyone jumping to the beat.
DAY 3: ROCKING FINALE
Day three, my final day at the festival, began with the mesmerizing performance of La Habitación Roja. Their indie pop tunes, combined with a dash of electronica, was the perfect start for the day. As the day unfolded, Tom Walker took to the stage, delivering an emotionally charged performance that tugged at our heartstrings.
As the sun set on the final day, the anticipation for Kasabian was palpable. The crowd roared as the iconic opening riff of “Club Foot” echoed through the festival grounds. They belted out hit after hit, with the crowd singing along to every word. The night ended on a euphoric note with the unique mix of traditional rock and indie-pop sounds of LA M.O.D.A.
Reflecting back, those three days were a whirlwind of music, dancing, newfound friendships, and a couple of challenges. Losing my phone, dealing with the sweltering heat, and at one point almost losing my voice from all the singing, but every hiccup was worth the magical experience. The Benicassim music festival 2022 was not just about the music; it was about the unity, the connection, and the shared love for music. This unforgettable journey was indeed a testament to the transformative power of music festivals.
As I packed up my tent on the final day, I was already looking forward to what Benicassim 2023 would bring.
