Hola, fellow festival fiends! Dust off your worn-out festival boots, shine up those slightly-too-reflective sunglasses, and slather on the factor 50 (who am I kidding, we’re going with a steady factor 20 at best). Why, you ask? Because, as you should already know, it’s time for Benicàssim 2023!
That’s right, folks. We’re heading back to the sun-soaked shores of Spain for another weekend of beach lounging by day, and music-induced madness by night. Bands usually kick off in the early evening and, in true Spanish style, the festival lasts until the morning, giving us plenty of time to enjoy the tunes and top up our tans.
Now, let’s dive into the delectable menu of music that awaits us at Benicàssim this year.
First up, Bastille. Remember when you belted out “Pompeii” at the top of your lungs back in 2013? Well, get ready to travel back in time and do it all over again. Bastille has been serving us synth-pop anthems for a decade now, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down. Expect soaring vocals, rousing choruses, and a crowd of thousands collectively forgetting the lyrics halfway through the second verse. Ah, bliss.
Next, we have Clean Bandit. When they’re not busy featuring every artist under the sun, they’re creating some of the catchiest tunes in the pop world. They’re the composers of the songs you hate to love, but you’ll be dancing along with the rest of us by the time they drop “Rather Be”. Just remember to take it easy with the sangria beforehand – we wouldn’t want you to miss out on their set because you’re too busy hugging a tree.
Then, there’s Franz Ferdinand. Nothing says “I survived the early 2000s indie rock scene” like knowing all the words to “Take Me Out”. They’ve kept the riffs coming ever since and are sure to provide a nostalgia-filled set that’ll have you reaching for your skinny jeans and studded belts. You might even find yourself doing that weird indie head nod that everyone used to do. You know the one.
Oh, and let’s not forget The Wombats. Get ready to dance to your death as these indie-rock legends take the stage. Expect infectious melodies, relentless energy, and lyrics that perfectly encapsulate your late-night existential crises. Who doesn’t want to scream “I’m not sure if I’m a boy or a girl or a dog but I’m definitely a mess, yeah!” at the top of their lungs? Just me? Alright then.
Lastly, we have the pop sensation Zara Larsson. She’s got more bops than a festival port-a-potty has… well, let’s not go there. Let’s just say she’s got a lot of bops. If you’re not singing along to “Lush Life” by the end of her set, then you’ve clearly not embraced the festival spirit (or spirits, as the case may be).
That’s all for now, folks! These are just a taste of the artists that will be gracing the stages of Benicàssim this year. Remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and for the love of all that is holy, please remember to take your tent home with you. Until then, let the countdown to Benicàssim begin!
